Unit 7 - Number Theory and Fractions
We don't use number theory in real life, do we???
Number Theory is tricky to see in real life but it is used all the time. When you logged into your Connexus account, you used Number Theory and didn't even know it!!! Part of number theory is the understanding of prime and composite numbers as well as the use of large "semi-prime" numbers. Semi-prime numbers are very large numbers that result from multiplying two large prime numbers together. Computers can have a very hard time being able to quickly calculate what numbers were used to create a large semi-prime number without a key which is the basis for many situations using cryptology. When you buy something online, your personal information may very well be protected because of a large semi-prime number!! |
